Make your front porch spook-tastic without spending a lot of money!
We are in full blown Halloween mode in our home. My boys wake up every morning wanting to know if they get to go trick or treating today and could spend all day making Ghost Pumpkin Pies. The last week or so their favorite thing to do is to sit on the front porch. I don’t mind because it’s been so nice out but I was surprised when I realized why they liked it so much. They spend hours (OK it’s probably more like 20 minutes or so) looking at and asking questions about the decorations. So to share their excitement of our front porch, day 5 of The 13 Frightfully Fun Days of Halloween is Budget Front Porch Decor.
They had been asking to decorate since the beginning of September when we started seeing Halloween things in stores. We finally gave in a few weeks ago and started to do a little decorating. I don’t like spending a lot of money on holiday decor when my kids are this young because I know very well that it probably won’t last more than a few weeks. Wondering eyes (and hands) seem to destroy the decorations before we can make it to the actual holiday.
When it was time to go to the store to pick up decorations our first stop was the dollar store. If you haven’t been, Dollar Tree has some really great decor ideas perfect for any budget. I mean come on, how can you beat $1?! We picked up a pack of spider webs, a few spiders, the Haunted tape for the door and a few other things for inside the house (pumpkin garland, lights, paper lanterns and kitchen signs).
Our next stop was down the street to pick up a few straw bales. Since animals don’t eat straw, straw bales are very affordable. You can find small ones at Target for $7 but we got these big ones from a local farm for $3. We also picked up some pumpkins from the farm for $.20/lb.
Last but not certainly not least we have my favorite, Witches Brooms. These beauties cost me nothing to make and definitely put the finishing touches to our porch.
It’s so fun to have my boys be proud of their front porch. Every time we go to the park they ask their friends if they want to come look at their front porch. And I’m happy that we didn’t spend a lot of money to get the finished product. We spent just over $16 to do the whole porch. So when my boys pull a little straw out of the bales or some of the twigs from the brooms fall out I’m not super upset.

Such a cute porch! I love how you were able to get an entire porch decorated for so cheap but super cute! I wish we lived near a farm where we could buy pumpkins and straw for so cheap. San Diego just doesn’t off that. Haha! Love this idea! Thanks!
