Have you ever had an idea of how you wanted something and no matter what you do you could not get it right? That’s how I’ve felt over the last few weeks trying to find a great pizza sauce that not only I will love but so will my boys. Both Statham, my one year old, and I have a very sweet tooth; while Jeremy and Rohrl have more of a taste for spice. I’ve been going through small cans of tomato sauce like they are going out of style; making a sauce or two a week and I haven’t really found anything we all liked… until last week. And it’s a super simple recipe. I had the right ingredients all along just had to get the right mix. If you like a little bit of sweet in your sauce then you’ll love this! Even if you don’t it is a great sauce and it paired really well with the veggie pizza I’ll be sharing on Friday.
Ingredients:
1 can tomato sauce (15 oz)
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 Tbsp garlic powder
2 Tbsp Italian seasoning
salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
Add all ingredients into a saucepan and heat over medium heat.
Bring to a boil (watch out because it will start popping sauce) and reduce heat to low.
Allow to simmer for 3 minutes.
Let cool before putting on pizza or refrigerating.
You can refrigerate this for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 6 months.
This made enough for two large pizzas and 2 small pizzas. I will probably make a big batch next week and freeze some. One of the things I am loving about my Friday Pie Day Series is that I don’t have to use the same base sauce or toppings every week. I can switch it up. So I will probably only use this sauce once or twice a month; except for with my homemade Totinos. Check back next week for that recipe.
