Using the Cricut Maker, make these 5 DIY Valentines for the whole class for $2 or less!
I remember being in school and spending hours (really it was probably like 10 or 15 minutes) in the store trying to decide on the perfect valentines to hand out to friends. I don’t know if times have changed or my boys just like to be crafty but they haven’t wanted to buy valentines the last two years they want to make them!
Since we have two classes we need to make valentines for I wanted to help them create something that was not only easy to make, but that didn’t cost a whole lot of money. The 5 ideas below you can make for less than $2 for a class of 28.
The Cricut Maker and scoring wheel does most of the work for you and you can create the valentines in an hour or less too (you might need a little more time if little hands are helping you and want to do everything on their own). To learn more about the scoring wheel and how it works, check out this post.
DIY Valentine’s Tags
I made all of the tags for each valentine so you can either print them on your printer and then have your Cricut Maker cut them OR you can use Cricut Pens and have the Cricut write the tags for you. All you have to do is select your tag, and then change from DRAW to PRINT, or vice-versa, in the top left drop down. You can find all the gift tags for these projects here.

Load your paper on your LightGrip mat and load your mat into your Maker.
Score lines and replace scoring wheel with the fine point blade. Cut design.
Fold square in half along the long score line.
Next, fold one side of the triangle up towards the middle on the score line.
Fold the other side of the triangle up towards the middle on the score line.
Unfold the last two folds and fold the middle of the triangle up towards the top of the triangle.
Fold the two sides inside the bottom of the small triangle.
Lion Head Rosette Lollipop Topper
This valentine is perfect for younger classes (like preschool or kindergarten) and are SO fun to make! I bought this huge pack of googly eyes last year for my kindergartner’s Valentine’s Day party and it came in handy with making these valentines too!
SUPPLIES:
Black, White, Pink, Red and Maroon Cardstock
Glue Stick
DIRECTIONS:
Open up this project in Design Space. You’ll want to hit customize and duplicate the design for as many valentines you need.
Hit make and follow prompts on the screens for loading each color on the mats and what tools you need.
Once you have everything cut, start putting together your lion. You’ll want to glue the black lion head to the maroon lion head. Then glue the pink lion head on top of the black and maroon lion head.
Lastly, attach googly eyes to the pink lion head.
To make the lion’s mane – fold each red piece into an accordion shape.
Glue all the pieces together so they form a circle. Let dry.
Pushing down towards the center and put hot glue in the center. Attach the small maroon circle. Let dry for 1 minute.
Turn over and put hot glue in the circle and around the inner edges and attach the lion head. Let dry for 1 minute.
Use hot glue gun to attach lollipop to the maroon circle and to attach tag to the stick of the sucker.
Arrow Pencil Valentines
Add a little something extra to the pencil valentine with these fun little arrows made easily with the scoring wheel. We are using these in my 1st graders class at one of the stations for a word search/scramble activity. We didn’t something similar for their Halloween party and they loved being able to keep their pencils.
SUPPLIES:
Glue stick
Pencils – You can get 12 packs at the dollar store, Target or Walmart
DIRECTIONS:
Open up this project in Design Space.
Select cardstock from the materials menu.
Load the black pen in the A Clamp and scoring wheel in the B clamp.
Load your paper on your LightGrip mat and load your mat into your Maker.
Score lines and replace scoring wheel with the fine point blade. Cut design.
Remove excess cardstock and fold arrows inward.
Glue three arrows together and let dry for 1 minute.
Push pencil through the bottom and attach tag.
Balloon Valentines
Another great valentine idea for young kids are balloons (make sure no one has a latex allergy before doing this one). I don’t know what it is about kids and balloons but they love them and this one cost just $1 for the whole class!
SUPPLIES:
Kraftboard (I like using Kraftboard over cardstock because it’s sturdier and holds up better)
Balloons – I got a pack of 25 at the dollar store
DIRECTIONS:
Open up this design in Design Space.
Select KraftBoard from the materials menu. You’ll need to click BROWSE MATERIALS and search KRAFTBOARD.
Load Red Cricut Pen in the A clamp.
Load KraftBoard on Mat and press go.
When screen prompts you, switch red pen for the black pen.
Remove excess kraftboard.
Push balloon through slats in the middle.
Valentine Gift Boxes
I used the same box for these as I did our deer onesies but changed out the onesie for a heart rosette. These are perfect for putting candy or little prizes in for class parties. You can get the design space file for the Valentine’s Boxes here. For tips on making paper rosettes, check out this post.
My boys are most excited to hand out the bookmark and the balloon valentines but we’ll be using the other ideas as part of their class parties too! What is your favorite valentine to make? The link to the design project isn’t working (I think with the switch to the app vs website). Is there another way to obtain the project design details?
Sydney says
Oh no! I’m so sorry! I found out if you save the projects with a picture to Cricut community the links should work. I just did that and here are the new links. Let me know if you’re still having issues getting them to pull up.
