Pottery Barn Inspired Dishes

Create these cute Thanksgiving dishes for a fraction of the price as the Pottery Barn ones.

 

Do you love Pottery Barn? I do! I love the timeless style and classic look of everything they offer. One thing I’m not so fond of are the prices. Don’t get me wrong, I know you are getting quality products; I just know that I can create a just as nice product for a fraction of the price. Take our No Sew Mummy Pillow for example. One of my favorite places to get seasonal decor ideas is Pottery Barn. That’s where the idea for the mummy pillow and these dishes came from.

I found these super cute Turkey Bowls at Pottery Barn Kids and knew they would be perfect to add to our Thanksgiving decor. The only problem was they were $7. Now $7 may not seem like a lot of money but when you have to buy multiple bowls that can really add up. So what did I do? I went to my absolute favorite store, Target! And I found exactly what I was looking for in their Dollar Spot. I’d been eyeing these ramekins for a month or so and looking at them this time I knew they would be perfect for my Thanksgiving bowls. After perusing Target for another hour or so, I left with my bowls (and a cart full of other things) and headed home to make my bowls.

All I did was cut the word “Give Thanks” out on my Cameo and placed it in the bowl. Easy peasy right?! A few things I’ve found that make applying vinyl easier are to clean your surface with rubbing alcohol first to make sure it’s clean. That way the vinyl sticks to it easily and there isn’t any dust or anything causing bubbles in the vinyl. To get it to stay better use a blow dryer to heat the vinyl up once it’s applied. Not only will this make it stick better but it will also make the texture of the surface show through on the vinyl. It didn’t make a big difference on ceramic dishes but it looks really cool when you attach it to wood, like on my Broom Parking Only Sign.

Now I know my bowls don’t have the cute turkeys on the outside but aren’t these still adorable? And they cost a fraction of the price. The two bowls were $3 so they were only $1.50 each to make. Plus, I love the reminder they give every time you reach into them. Right now ours are holding Halloween candy but as we get closer to Thanksgiving I’m sure I’ll add healthier snacks, like nuts or berries.
