SmoresApplesMain

Six months ago if someone asked me to create a recipe I would have had to sit down and really think hard about what to make. I probably would have ended up finding one on Pinterest, tweeking it then calling it good. But lately I have been getting recipe inspiration non-stop. It’s like a switch clicked in my brain and ideas are coming to me a million miles an hour. I actually have a notepad by my bed so when I wake up in the middle of the night with an idea I can jot it down so I don’t forget.

A few weeks ago my lovely mom brought us over the biggest apple I have ever seen! You may have seen the picture on Instagram I posted of Rohrl devouring it. wpid-img_20140925_091505.jpgI asked where she got them and she said they were on sale at Sprouts. Well, before I could get over there to buy some more, she brought me over a huge box of them. How awesome is she?! As I was slicing one up and enjoying the crunchiness that my favorite Honey Crisp offers, I was reminiscing about all the fun things we got to do this summer. One thing we didn’t get around to doing was making s’mores. S’mores are one of my all time favorite treats and I would have loved to introduce my boys to their ooey-gooey goodness. Then BAM! Inspiration struck! Why not make s’mores candied apples! After a little bit of thinking and searching through the cupboards I found all the ingredients I’d need. Now on to making them.

Well, life happened. And here we are 3 weeks later with no s’mores apples. Not today! I woke up and had a goal: Make S’mores Apples! And you know what… they are delicious! Every bite brings a new mix of flavors and it is (almost) like biting in to a s’more hot out of the fire pit! Apples are still in season so go pick a few and try these today. You won’t be disappointed.

SmoresApple1

Ingredients:

Honey Crisp (or your favorite) Apples

Jet Puffed Marshmallow Creme (I made 4 and used 90% of the jar)

Chocolate Chips (about 1/4 cup per apple)

Graham Crackers (1/2 a long cracker per apple)

Tools To Make Creating Easier:

Lollipop Sticks

Blendtec Blender

Directions:

Clean apple and insert lollipop stick into top

In a microwave safe bowl warm up Marshmallow Creme for 15 seconds.

Using a non-stick spatula cover bottom 3/4 of apple with Marshmallow Creme.

Let dry for about 15 minutes on wax paper.

In a microwave safe bowl cook chocolate chips for 30 seconds and then stir. Cook in increments of 15 seconds and stir in between until chocolate is smooth.

With a non-stick spatula cover bottom half of Marshmallow Creme covered apple with chocolate.

Using your Blendtec blender (seriously this thing is the bomb dot com. I have used my KitchenAid blender to crush things before and I always get large chunks no matter how long I crush them for. In about 5 seconds the Blendtec had crushed all the graham crackers into the perfect sprinkle size) crush graham crackers until they are a fine dust.

Sprinkle graham crackers over chocolate.

Place remaining graham crackers in a bowl and dip apple in to cover bottom.

Be careful with how thick you put the chocolate on. Gravity will take over and start pulling the chocolate down into a big pile of chocolate-y mess if you put it on too thick.

Word of warning: You will get messy eating this sweet treat! It is totally worth it though!

If you have been wanting to get a Blendtec but couldn’t justify the price I might have an answer for you! Currently, Blendtec is offering factory refurbished blenders for $100 off; so not much more than you would pay for a run-of-the-mill blender. And they come with the a warranty! Pop on over and check them out. Seriously, they are so worth every penny!
