Keep colds at bay this winter with these homemade decongestant bath discs.Homemade Cold Fighting Bath Discs: Keep coughs and colds at bay this winter with these descongestant discs that take just minutes to make AD #HealthySavings

I don’t think I’ve ever been as worried about getting sick as I am this year. With our little Mahle being less than two months 0ld I definitely don’t want any cold or flu germs coming in the house. When Rohrl, my oldest, was a baby he was never sick; never even a cough or runny nose. We also hardly ever left the house. The next winter we had play dates on a weekly basis and it seemed like every week someone had the sniffles, cough or a full blown cold. With having such a young baby at home I don’t want that to happen this year so I headed to Walgreens to stock up on medicine cabinet must haves items and to pick up supplies to make these bath discs.Homemade Cold Fighting Bath Discs: Keep coughs and colds at bay this winter with these descongestant discs that take just minutes to make AD #HealthySavings

These shower discs are perfect to use at the first sign of a runny nose or cough and are safe for all ages. When my second came down with a cold when he was a baby I would put a disc in the shower by the drain, run hot water from the shower and just sit in the bathroom with him. By bedtime he was breathing clearly again. You probably have everything you need to make these in your kitchen with the exception of the vaporizing rub. I picked up a small jar from Walgreens as well as some Emergen-C® and Centrum® Vitamints®. I like keeping these in the house this time of the year too. The Centrum® Vitamints® are on sale throughout the cold and flu season (prices change each week) and are essential nutrients with 100% or more of the daily vitamins (C, D, E and B6). Plus they come in two great flavors, Raspberry and Cool Mint. I love Emergen-C® because it has more vitamin C than 10 oranges^ (^based on using the USDA.gov nutrient database value for a large, raw orange) plus is packed with B vitamins, antioxidants† and electrolytes and comes in several yummy flavors. The 1000 mg of Vitamin C and other antioxidants (†Zinc and Manganese) support your immune system* which you definitely need during the winter time. Super Orange is our family’s favorite flavor.Homemade Cold Fighting Bath Discs: Keep coughs and colds at bay this winter with these descongestant discs that take just minutes to make AD #HealthySavings

These shower discs take just a few minutes to make and will store all season long in the freezer. The smell of the vaporizing rub can be really strong so prepare for your kitchen, or wherever you’re making these, to smell invigorating for a few hours.Homemade Cold Fighting Bath Discs: Keep coughs and colds at bay this winter with these descongestant discs that take just minutes to make AD #HealthySavings

Add 1 Tbsp of water and 1 drop of food coloring at a time. Stir until you get a crumby texture. (I used 3 Tbsp water and 4 drops of food coloring).

When you use these place them close to the drain so they do not make your floor sticky and ONLY use them in the shower. If you have small children who don’t like showers you can run them in the shower and sit in the bathroom with the door closed with them. The vapors will fill the bathroom.
