Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. We’ve heard that for years, but how many of us really give breakfast the credit it deserves? Especially moms. Our mornings are filled with making sure everything is ready for the day, the kids are dressed, lunches are made, homework is done, the list goes on and on. I’ll admit I haven’t always been good at eating breakfast. Most of the time I just finish whatever eggs my boys didn’t eat.
But this year I wanted to eat healthier and instead of committing to eating healthy all the time (that would have lasted less than a week) I committed to eating breakfast every day. No matter what it was, a bowl of cereal, eggs, smoothie, I promised myself I would eat something good for breakfast every day. And you know what… I have. And it’s made a big difference in our day!
Now I wake up excited to start the day! I used to have to drag myself out of bed (only after the kids pulled the blanket off of me first), get them something to eat and then sit on the couch and check Facebook or Instagram until they were done. Now, I wake up at 6, take a shower, get ready for the day and have time to myself before my boys wake up. After they wake up I get them dressed, which used to not happen until after lunch, and we go downstairs to eat breakfast and watch Daniel Tiger.
Eating eggs everyday was getting old so I started switching up our breakfast menu a bit. We are big fans of smoothies, especially this Triple Berry Spinach Smoothie, and I’ve heard smoothie bowls are all the rage so last week we decided to give one a try. I’ve also been moving our healthy morning habits into snack time, so when I was at Walmart picking up our weekly groceries I started looking for some healthy snacks too. I saw these Carnation Breakfast Essential® Drinks and drink powders. I knew the drinks would be great for my mid-morning snack and the chocolate powder would taste good in our smoothie bowls. So I added them to the cart and headed home.
Smoothie bowls are so easy to make. You just blend up your ingredients like you normally would, I added a little more almond milk to mine so it wasn’t as thick as my usual smoothie, then put it in a bowl and top with your favorite ingredients. Our Berry Banana Crunch Bowl was a success! My boys and I loved how the chocolate flavored blended so well with the berries and bananas and the crunch of granola on top was the icing on the cake (or smoothie).
Berry Banana Crunch Smoothie Bowl
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1 packet Carnation Breakfast Essentials® Chocolate Drink Powder
- 1 cup spinach
- 1 banana
- 1 1/2 cup frozen berry mix I like to use blueberry, raspberry and strawberry
- Blueberries raspberries and granola for toppings.
- Mix drink powder and milk together and pour into blender.
- Top with spinach, banana and berries.
- Blend until smooth.
- Pour into a bowl and top with blueberries, raspberries and granola.
