Make custom wrapping paper for the Marine in your life PLUS learn how to wrap like a pro with these simple steps.
Why is it that guys are so hard to shop for? Maybe it’s not all guys, but my guys (my husband and dad) are particularly tough to get gifts for. They either say they don’t want anything or what they want costs about as much as our entire gift giving budget for the family. Luckily, this year I saved and got an awesome deal on my husband’s gift so now I just have to shop for one more toughie…my dad.
I know my dad will probably ask for some movies and maybe something for his camera but no matter what we get him I want it to be extra special so I decided to make my own wrapping paper just for him. He served in the Marines when he was younger and is still very proud to be a Marine so I decided to make custom wrapping paper with the Marine Corp logo on it. I also got some tips from the pros (a.k.a. my husband) in wrapping so everything will be smooth straight lines with his present too.
I started by heading to Walmart to pick up supplies. I picked up the Scotch® Gift Wrap Tape 3 Pack Caddie and a pair of Scotch™ Multi-Purpose Scissors 8″ and some plain red wrapping paper. You can make this wrapping paper for any branch of the military just pick the coordinating color (blue for the Navy and Air Force and black or green for the Army). Having a good pair of scissors and good quality tape is key to wrapping since you want nice smooth edges as well as strong tape to hold everything together. I prefer Scotch® Brand because of the quality and because they are donating $200,000 to the Fisher House, a charity that provides comfortable places to stay for military and veteran families at no cost while their loved one is receiving medical treatment.
To make your custom wrapping paper you’ll need:
Vinyl Cutter
Plain Red Wrapping Paper
Gold Sketch Pens
Cutting Mat
Scissors
Directions:
Open the design studio for your vinyl cutter and draw a 24″x 12″ rectangle (or the size of cutting mat your using, mine was 12X24).
Upload the branch of the military’s logo into your studio as either a svg or png file.
Copy and paste logo so that many logos fill your rectangle.
Change the feature from cut to write for each logo.
Cut a piece of wrapping paper about the size of your cutting mat (you don’t have to be exact since the machine will be cutting a nice rectangle for you) and attach it to the cutting mat.
Load cutting mat and let machine draw the logos and cut the rectangle.
Remove paper from cutting mat.
***If the gift you are wrapping is large you can also cut a larger logo out of vinyl and attach it to the wrapped gift.
Now to wrap your present.
Lay the paper face down on a flat surface and place gift in center. Estimate where the edges will meet in the middle and cut.
Fold sides over the gift and and attach with tape in the center.
On the ends of the gift flatten paper on both sides on gift making triangles on the top and bottom.
Fold top triangle down and then fold bottom triangle over it and secure with tape.
Now you have a professionally wrapped personalized gift that any Marine is sure to love. Who do you have a tough time shopping for this time of year?

Awww I love this idea!! My hubby, father-in-law, and dad are ALL the hardest to buy for each year, for the exact same reasons you list! My father-in-law is a former Marine (we have military men all over the place in our family), so I will definitely have to do something like this for him this year! 😀
