Create a baby shower gift that is not only fun but useful too!
We’ve got just two weeks until our little girl joins our family and in that time I have three baby showers to go to. Who knew September was such a popular month to have a baby?! Having had a baby shower, thrown a baby shower and attended countless showers I’ve learned a thing or two about gift giving for moms to be. While it’s fun to get (and give) cute little outfits, blankets and little toys I’ve found the best gifts are ones that are useful ones; things that mom and dad are going to have to buy. When we had our first baby we were beyond blessed to not have to buy diapers for the first three months. My mother-in-law threw us a baby shower and almost everyone brought us diapers. It was so nice to not have to run to the store every week or in the middle of the night when we ran out of diapers. Diapers are, in my opinion, the best gift to give to expecting parents. But how fun is it to just give a box of diapers?!
There are lots of fun ways to dress up diapers for shower gifts. There’s diaper cupcakes, diaper cakes, diaper bouquets and more. My favorite way to gift diapers are diaper wreaths. They are so easy to make but can be a bit time consuming. So put your favorite show on Netflix and get to crafting!
Supplies:
Diapers (my favorite are Huggies)
18″ Metal Wreath Form
Clear Hair Elastics
Ribbon
Twine
Small gifts to attach to wreath (I used travel size baby wash and shampoo, lotion, baby powder, socks and a headband)
Directions:
Step 1: Roll up diaper from the top to bottom.
Step 2: Use clear elastic to keep rolled up.
Step 3: Repeat steps 1 and 2 with about 35 diapers.
Step 4: Tie ribbon in a double knot around diaper.
Step 5: Attach diaper to wreath using ribbon. Wrap ribbon around two middle rails in the back. Tie a double knot. Wrap ribbon around bottom rail and tie a second double knot.
Step 6: Repeat steps 5 and 6 with remaining diapers until wreath form is completely full.
Step 7: Weave two different colors of tulle in between diapers and tie in a knot on the back of the wreath.
Step 8: Use tulle to attach gifts to wreath. I wrapped the tulle around the gift and 2 diapers. I then skipped two diapers and repeated with remaining gifts.
I bought a Newborn Pack of Huggies at Costco (the only place to buy the Newborn Packs) because I needed so many for the wreaths and also because the price and quality can’t be beat. I love the Huggies brand because they are soft and keep my babies’ bums clean and rash free. I also love how the Newborn size have the umbilical cord cut out and the wetness indicator. I was shocked at first to realize how much new babies go pee! I’ve found it’s especially important with new babies to have diapers everywhere; at the changing table, in the living room, bathroom, bedroom, anywhere you spend any amount of time with your baby! You never know when your little bundle of joy will have a blowout and the last thing you want to do is be running through the house trying to find a diaper.
What is your favorite gift(s) to give when you attend a baby shower? If you’re like me and like to give diapers and/or want to make a diaper wreath now through September 25th you can get $5 off the Newborn Packs or $6 off the Little Snugglers Plus Packs at Costco.
