If you’re a new mom make the holidays less stressful with these simple tips.
My oh my have the last 2 months flown by. It seems like just yesterday we brought our baby girl home and now we are preparing for the holidays. The holidays are usually a very busy time in our home with lots of baking, parties and a crazy exhausted mama. Am I the only one who feels like she needs to take a vacation all of January to recover from the busy-ness of the month before?! This year I’m making sure the holidays are much more laid back. With having a new baby at home I don’t have the energy I have had years past and I also don’t want a lot of visitors in and out potentially making my baby girl sick. Here are some tips to help make the holidays easier for you too.
Sit down with the family and plan out the holidays. Between school performances, office parties, family parties and more the holidays can be super stressful if you don’t sit down and talk about what’s going on. Before December sit down with your family and a calendar and mark down when everyone has something going on. Sit down again once a week (we like to do this Sunday nights) to discuss the week ahead and add anything that might have come up. This will help with not having two things happen at once and also let you pick and choose what you do.
Learn to say no. This one is super hard for me (as I’m sure it is for a lot of women) but to save your sanity we all need to learn it’s OK to not agree to everything we’re asked to do. For your sanity, health and health of your family we need to learn to say no to some things. Whether it’s passing on the neighborhood potluck or volunteering for your kids’ class party saying no is completely OK.
Meal plan and plan your shopping trips. With being so busy during the holidays (and new mommy tired brain) sometimes we forget things, like making dinner and grocery shopping. Here is a list of thirty recipes for dinner that take less than 30 minutes to make. And you print a customized shopping list here. I try to make as few trips as possible to the store during the holidays so I don’t end up buying more than I need. My favorite place to shop is Walmart because I can get my groceries, party essentials and presents all in one place.
Remember the essentials. And I’m not just talking about bread and milk here. I’m talking about our lady essentials. There’s nothing more embarrassing then being in the middle of a conversation and have someone tell you your leaking after just feeding your baby or laughing at a joke and realizing more than just a laugh came out. While you’re at Walmart make sure you pick up nursing pads and leak protection. During one of my Walmart trips I found these new Impressa® Bladder Supports from Poise; they help comfortably stop leaks before they happen. One of the things they don’t tell you after you have a baby is that you don’t have full control of your bladder anymore. One sneeze, one laugh, one cough and you could find yourself with a mess. The Impressa Sizing Kit has the perfect fit for every women. You can buy yours in store or at Walmart.com.
Remember the reason for the season. It’s easy to get caught up in holiday parties, gift giving and excitement that the holiday brings. But take time to remember the real reason we celebrate the holidays. You can download and print this design here and hang in your home as reminder.
I hope this helps make the holidays a little easier on all you new moms out there. What are you most excited about this time of year? And don’t forget to pick up your Impressa Support System at Walmart before the hustle and bustle of the season.
