Star Wars fans will love these creamy, chocolaty truffles.
When I was planning all the details of Rohrl’s Star Wars Party I had a tough time deciding on party favors. We’d been to birthday parties before where each party goer gets a big filled with candy and little toys. Not only did my boys go crazy from all the candy but when the little toys broke a sugar high meltdown always ensued. I didn’t really want to spend the money on toys and candy that wouldn’t last but I also didn’t want my friends and family to have to deal with the same melt downs.
Ultimately I decided on doing pool noodle light sabers and these Oreo Truffles. Rohrl’s favorite character is Darth Vader so choosing favors that fit with that theme made his party that much more fun. The nice thing with the truffles is it was a treat both kids and parents could enjoy. And my cost to make them was minimal; the Oreos were on sale and I already had the cream cheese, chocolate and food coloring. These were definitely the hit of the party; I caught one of Rohrl’s little cousin eating like ten of them! (so much for no sugar overload right?!) They are so easy to make I think I’ll be making truffles as favors for every party now! If you’re celebrating May the Fourth or this year’s Episode 7 release make these as a treat for your Star Wars fans; but be careful they won’t last long.
Death Star Oreo Truffles
Ingredients
- 1 box of Oreo cookies
- 1 8 oz. box of cream cheese, softened to room temperature
- 1 cup white chocolate candy melts
- ~1/4 tsp black food coloring
- canola oil
Instructions
- Crush Oreos in a food processor, blender or by hand.
- In a large bowl combine Oreo crumbs and cream cheese.
- Mix with a spoon until every thing sticks together.
- Wet your hands slightly with water and form 1" balls.
- Place balls on a parchment lined baking sheet.
- Place in fridge for 30 minutes to allow to set up. (This step is important if you don't give them time to stick together they will fall apart when you dip them in chocolate)
- Place 1/2 cup of candy melts in microwave and cook for 30 seconds.
- Stir with a wooden spoon and cook for an additional 30 seconds.
- Stir again and if needed cook for 15 seconds until all chocolate is melted.
- If necessary add canola oil to melted chocolate to make runnier, easier to dip.
- Slowly add in black food coloring and stir until desired grey color is reached.
- Dip truffles into chocolate and let completely harden on parchment lined baking sheet (I waited at least 30 minutes).
- Using the back of a pen, poke small, shallow holes in to side of truffles.

You just poked holes with a pen? You didn’t need to scoop or anything??
Sydney says
Yep, just use the end of a pen and push in about 1in.
Loni says
How much canola oil do you use to make it runnier? Can I use vegetable oil instead?
Sydney says
Yes, you can definitely use vegetable oil instead. Start with 1 tsp and add more if you need…you want the chocolate to easily run off a spoon, if that makes sense.
