Whether you’re going to the beach, mountains or just your neighborhood park for Spring Break don’t forget to pack these essentials with you.
I’m more than just a little excited for spring to be here. I like winter for about three days after Christmas and then I’m ready for warmer weather to come. Even my boys feel the same way. They want to go out and play in the snow for five minutes, then realize it’s cold and come back in. Even though they aren’t in school yet we are still looking forward to spring break so we can go on adventures with our friends and cousins during the day.
I’ve learned, the hard way the last few years, it’s best to stock up on warm weather essentials before the season because if you don’t sometimes you’ll be limited on what’s available. So last weekend I ran down the street to our new CVS and picked up a few things we ran out of last year. Sun screen, travel size pain killer, hand sanitizer and some new chapstick (because you can never have enough chapstick right?!). When I was checking out I noticed the new Extra® 35-stick packs. My boys usually clean out my sister-in-law’s stash of gum within minutes so I picked up a few packs to share; my favorite, Extra® Gum Spearmint and I tried a new flavor to me Extra® Gum Polar Ice. Not only was there more gum to share but the new packs feel sturdier (and are made out of recycled materials) too so they’re less likely to be torn apart by hungry hands. And of course there’s more gum in each pack which is always a bonus.
Another essential for spring break (especially if you’re fair skinned like our family is) is a good after burn cream. We’ve all been there. The kids (and grown ups too) are having so much fun playing we forget to put sunscreen on after a few hours. They finally start to settle down around dinner time and that’s when you notice those bright pink shoulders and cheeks. Having a sun burn can be super painful but having an after burn cream with you will definitely soothe the pain. All you need is a few ingredients that you probably already have at home, or that you can pick up at the store.
6 Tbsp. Aloe Vera Gel (you can use the green or clear gel)
2 Tbsp. Cocoa Butter
4 Tbsp. Coconut Oil
2 Tbsp. Olive Oil
20-30 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
Directions:
Mix all ingredients in a bowl until a paste is formed.
Store in an air tight jar for up to 3 months.
Store in the fridge when you’re not using for a nice, cool effect.
This cream was a life saver for us (and our friends) last year and I’ve made a few extra batches this year so that we never run out. I’m a big believer in you get what you give and Extra® Gum believes that too with their Give Extra, Get Extra campaign. Click here to find out more about it and don’t forget to print your $1 off coupon good for any 35-stick pack of Extra® Gum. What’s in your bag for Spring Break this year?
