Last week I was lucky enough to have a night out, no kiddos allowed, and get together with over 100 other amazing bloggers at Salt of The Earth Spa here in Woods Cross, UT. It was such an amazing experience! From the moment I walked in I was greeted with smiling, helpful faces and felt at home. The building’s design is super industrial, which I happen to be a huge fan of, so does my husband. I snapped this picture right after I walked in and sent it to him. He has wanted to build a container house on some property we own down south for awhile now and I thought this would be good inspiration for him. He was more than just a little jealous that he had to stay home with the boys; sorry hunny. One thing I don’t like about the industrial design of most buildings is how cold and dark they feel. That was the exact opposite at Salt of The Earth; as soon as you walk in you feel warm and welcome in the open and unique environment they have created.
After checking in and talking to the lovely ladies from Sego Lily Day Spa I headed upstairs with some of my bloggy buddies and got treated to a sugar scrub and hand massage done by McKayla (If you’re reading this McKayla and I spelled your name wrong I am so sorry) from NIMA. From a mom who hasn’t had a massage in over 2 years this felt amazing! And it was totally customized to me too! I got to pick a scent, I chose Relax, and paired it with a hydrating serum that has left my hands still silky, smooth over a week later. I never knew Utah was home to one of the top schools for aesthetics in the country. These girls knew what they were doing!
After my massage, I started smelling some really yummy scents downstairs so I headed down to check that out next. Oh my gosh! Can I just say the food that I found was Ah-mazing! Whole Foods catered the event and though I knew this ahead of time, I had no idea the food was going to be so good. I wish I had skipped dinner earlier that night so I could have eaten more. They had gourmet mac’n’cheese topped with your choice of pork or caramelized leek and gouda cheese; creme brulee, fig cake with the most amazing ice cream and fresh fruit. I seriously felt like I was eating something from a five-star restaurant.
After clearing two plates of food, yep not afraid to admit I ate THAT much, I headed back up front to make my own signature spa skin care product to take home. We had the
choice of a salt scrub, a sugar scrub or a moisturizing creme. I chose the moisturizing creme and added Juicy Pink Grapefruit. Another
really great part of the night was all the knowledgeable and helpful staff. I had the nicest “blendologist” helping me whip up my creme and turns out he was the Owner and Chief Care Officer, Paul Heslop. I had seen him earlier in the night helping other bloggers as well. One thing that sets a good company apart from a great company, in my opinion, is when the owner is willing to do just as much work (if not more) as his or her employees.
Paul later took the stage and told us a little more about how Salt of The Earth came about and what they are doing to grow their business. It was great to hear someone so passionate about what they do. It definitely got me pumped to go after my dreams. Salt of The Earth was founded in 1998 and for years was ran out of a two-car garage. After Paul graduated from Weber State he approached the owner, who also used to be his previous employer, and asked what had come of the company. He later bought the company and in a few short years has grown it to what it is today. They are the featured spa skin care products in over 20 of the top 100 Conde Nast spas, which is huge, and Paul was even featured on the cover of Pulse Magazine. They use all natural ingredients in all of their products (72 of which come from the Great Salt Lake). So when you buy their product, if you live here in Utah, you truly are buying local.
So you may be thinking to yourself, ‘Sydney, your website is all about living frugally, why are you promoting a company who does business with spas like Stein Eriksen and The Grand America?’ Well, just because they make high-end products doesn’t mean they use the most expensive materials. Actually, all the containers they use in their “Blend Bars” come from Ikea. How’s that for affordable?
After Paul shared his story we all went outside for the main event (well, really the whole night was the main event) the spanita! What’s a spanita you ask?
It is a HUGE pinata in the shape of a sugar scrub spa box. Inside was thousands of dollars in prizes. After this massive thing was hoisted up by a forklift, several bloggers took a wack at it. After several good attempts one blogger hit it right on the money and BAM! 150 ladies diving to get their hands on the awesome prizes inside. Do you remember in Mean Girls when Lindsay Lohan attacks Rachel McAdams in the lunchroom?
Yeah, that’s what it was like that night. I walked away unscathed and with some pretty sweet loot too!
After the madness of the spanita we all went back inside to mingle and enjoy the rest of our evening. I headed home soon after to get the boys to bed so I missed a pretty sweet dance party but was happy with all that I had gotten to experience.
Big thank you to Ikea Draper for the super soft bath robe and cute little note books, Whole Foods for the gift card, Hydropeptide for the firming gel, Glow Dough for the super fun slimy putty, Sego Lily for the gift card and of course to Paul and everyone at Salt Of The Earth for the amazing sample; I can not wait to try more of their products. And this whole event wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for Janet at Newspaper Grl.
