Oh the weather outside is frightful but the fire is so delightful. And as long as you love me so… let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. One of my all time favorite Christmas carols. Here in Utah we have been very blessed so far this year with very mild weather. In fact, last week the boys and I went for a long walk and I had to take my jacket off it was so warm (I’m sorry for those of you buried in the snow).Â
Good weather or bad, my favorite way to relax is in a nice, hot bath. Especially on extra cold days or days when my two little guys (and sometimes my big guy) have pushed me to my limits. I am lucky enough to have a husband who also enjoys bathes and understands that this mama needs a break now and then.; so my relaxing baths usually happen on a weekly basis.
I really enjoy bubble baths, but learned a few years back that they aren’t so great for you; especially if you take them frequently. So I discovered the next best thing; bath bombs. I tried them for the first time a few years ago and have been hooked ever since! Going to LUSH and buying a case of bath bombs was definitely out of the budget so I decided to make my own. I’ve seen copy-cat LUSH bombs on Pinterest and they look divine. However, I’m a simple girl and I go for simple ingredients. These come together with just 4 ingredients and make the perfect gift for you or any one who needs a little pampering. I actually caught my hubby using one a few weeks back. The mix of lavender and peppermint is perfect because the lavender relaxes while the peppermint is invigorating and fresh. Throw a couple in a plastic ornament, hang it on the tree and give them to someone who needs a little “me” time.
Materials:
1 cup baking soda
1/2 cup citric acid (I found mine in the canning section of the baking aisle at Walmart)
1 1/2 tsp lavender bath oil (You can use olive oil, coconut oil or baby oil if you don’t have bath oil)
10 drops peppermint essential oil
spray bottle with water
red food coloring
whisk
spatula
2 bowls
mini muffin tin
plastic ornament (I found mine at Michael’s for $.49)
ribbon or baker’s twine
Directions:
In a large bowl combine baking soda and citric acid and whisk together until completely combined.
Add lavender bath oil and peppermint essential oil and stir to combine.
Spraying only a few spritz at a time, spray mix and whisk together until it reaches consistency of wet sand (I usually spray about 15 times in 2-3 spritz increments).Â
Divide mixture in half and add 5 drops of red food coloring to one half and mix with a spatula in a small bowl.
Take about 1 tbsp each of the red and the white mixture and form into a ball in your hands.Â
Place in mini muffin tin and add additional mix if necessary to fill to the top.
Let dry for 24 hours.
Put 2-3 in a plastic ornament, attach a ribbon and printable gift tag.
This recipe makes between 12-14 bath bombs. Double or triple recipe if you are making several as gifts.
These can be stored in an air tight container for up to 3 months (though they never make it that long at our home).
And don’t forget your FREE printable tags here.
